Anders als der Name "Ameisenvögel" vermittelt, fressen diese Arten garkeine Ameisen. Diese Arten folgen nämlich Treiberameisen im Regenwald und profitieren davon, dass die Ameisen andere Insekten und Futtertiere aufscheuchen. Dabei haben die verschiedenen Vogelarten eine bestimmte Hirarchie, und ein bestimmte ökologische Nische beim Nahrungserwerb.
